Central Foundation Girls School

Miss J. McLeod joined the staff of the Bowbrook School in September 1972 as part of the team of Home Economics teachers. In September 1975 this school merged with the Central Foundation Grammar School to become the Central Foundation Comprehensive School . She was promoted to second in the Home Economics department and Assistant Head of Year. In both these roles she has played a major role in the development of the school. Much of the subsequent pattern of pastoral care was set in those first months and Miss McLeod as Assistant Head of First Year was very much involved with the first comprehensive intake. This group, now in their fourth year, owes much to the standards of care implemented by Miss McLeod and her head of Year. she has watched them grow with concern and genuine sympathy; never lapsing into sentimentality and she is respected and admired by all the girls. She has been largely responsible for monitoring their day to day punctuality and attendance.
As a teacher of Home Economics , Miss McLeod is excellent, imposing, apparently without effort, high standards of discipline and performance . She is particularly good in encouraging younger members of the department , who know they can gain from her, helpful constructive advice, support and sympathy .
I have high regard for Miss McLeod and regret that I have no promotion to offer her within the school. She has shown that she is worthy of a more senior position and would give quiet, unobtrusive service of a high order to any school which employed her. I shall be very sorry to lose her. I commend her to you without reservation.

Elizabeth Smith, Head Mistress, May 1979.

In August 1975 we were both teachers and on holiday, Jacquelyn`s dad was from Glasgow but she had never been to Scotland so, off we went in my van. Passing through Coventry something was up with the engine, major trouble so we found a lay- by outside town and close to a Ford Garage, for parts !. Three nights we were there while I changed a piston ring; Jacquelyn read The Day of the Jackal, walked to the shop, did the cooking, took the photographs ,,we became a local attraction for the passing traffic. A kind local couple invited us at the end for a shower and meal . Finally we were on our way again, Lake District, Glasgow, Fort William , Ben Nevis , Isle of Skye, Edinburgh and South again !

BOWBROOK SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Miss J. McLeod joined the staff of Bowbrook School in September 1972 , straight from college. She settled down rapidly as part of a team of four Mistresses teaching housecraft .
She has great depths of maturity and her quiet, business-like manner and pleasant smile have made her readily acceptable to Staff and girls alike. In addition to teaching her own subject to C.S.E. level, she has proved herself a capable and efficient form mistress, having taken charge of an awkward group of fourth year girls and steered them into their fifth year with tact, firmness and affection. She has also taken a very active part in organising and running a Social Service group for the girls.
She is ever willing to help, be it in catering for a school function; taking charge of other groups in the absence of a colleague, or caring for a sick girl. Whatever she does, she does well, and it is not surprising therefore that she has been invited to become second in the Housecraft Department when this school merges with another, in September 1975, to become Comprehensive.
I wish her well in the future and will be interested in the course of her career, as I feel that she has nowhere nearly reached her full potential.
Mrs M. SEIDEL, HEADMISTRESS, July 1975

How Jackie would have loved today, the celebrations, gratitude to our War veterans, sharing memories, no doubt adding her own very unique twist to the day. Oh how she put her heart and soul into every special event.Seeing the poppies broke my heart strangely, not only for their true meaning, but because Jackie got one for me. I treasure it with every ounce of my heart. Goodness knows how she got it, I tried and there were none at all!! Yet again she worked her beautiful magic, thank you Jackie. Love and miss you always dear friend. Ally. X

To Whom It May Concern ;

Miss Jacquelyn McLeod was a pupil at this school from 1962 until 1969 during which time she created a most favourable impression in every way.
She obtained her examination results through consistently hard work and always showed stability and dependability of character. Jacquelyn was a quiet and charming girl but well able to hold her place with her contemporaries. She matured considerably in the Sixth Form and became a most successful Head Girl.
We had no hesitation in recommending her for a Training College place and rated her suitability for the teaching profession as good.
I feel confident that she has profited from her training and that there is every prospect of her becoming a welcome addition to the profession.
Yours faithfully, B K Fisher,

Headmaster, Park Barn County Secondary School, Guildford.
