JacquelineMETCALFEMrs Jacqueline Emilienne Metcalfe, nee Sellier, widow of the late Robert William Metcalfe, formerly of Bridge End, Helmshore, died on Saturday, March 26, at Holme Manor Residential Care Home, aged 96. She leaves three children, Edith, William (Bill), and Christine, daughter-in-law Denise, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jacqueline was born in Normandy, France, and moved to Helmshore in 1952. A retired French teacher, she was secretary to Haslingden and District Civic Trust for 20 years, and a member of St Thomas church choir. Jacqueline’s varied interests included classical music, reading, gardening, needlework, and walking. The family would like to thank the care teams of Holme Manor and Astra Care for their incredibly high standards of care and compassion shown to our mother over the later years of her life, allowing her to retain her dignity. Our thanks also to Fr David Stephenson, Vicar of St James, Haslingden, and St Thomas, Musbury, neighbours and friends of Helmshore for their support shown towards Jacqueline, especially during recent years. The funeral will take place at 1pm on Friday, April 22, at St Thomas Church, Musbury, Helmshore, followed by burial at Holden Vale Cemetery. Family flowers only please, and donations if wished can be made to St Thomas Church, Helmshore, or Dementia UK online at www. fredhamer.co.uk (tributes and donations). Mrs Metcalfe taught me French in my first year at Haslingden High School in 1974. She was a lovely lady and used to see her around Helmshore in later years, she would always say hello. Rest in Peace.
