Dear Liz

You have very much been in my thoughts. I only met Sjef once, but I could see how happy you were and what a great Dad he was.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

With much love

When I think back over the 25 years that I have shared with Sjef, he was my chief supporter and would always encourage me to be the best I could, in both my personal and work life and never settle for less. When we first met I was profoundly deaf, but he supported and motivated me to ensure this never prevented me from achieving my goals. Sjef loved art and travelling; wherever we went, he would collect a piece of art to remind us of our trip. He always regretted not buying some Maori masks in New Zealand, even though I found them frightening! Sjef was great company and had a vast general knowledge and would always have something to say on pretty much any topic that came up in conversation ..apart from health or medicines! He loved routine and organisation and often despaired when I lost my phone, keys or changed plans (again). He always thought of others before himself, even to the end, and I can still hear him say; ' I'm sorry, I can't change it!'
Sjef will be sorely missed but through shared memories he will live on in our hearts.
Liz

I chose these charities in memory of Sjef because :
Macmillan nurses supported Sjef and myself throughout his cancer journey, in Aintree hospital, Glan Clwyd hospital and in the community. They offered both practical advice and emotional support and nothing was ever too much for them.
AMMF (ammf.org.uk) is one of a few charities that specifically work to support and fund research into this rare but aggressive and less well known cancer.

Dear Big Brother (Sjef),

To my beloved brother,

No matter how different we were, you were, and always will be, my big brother.

Maybe you judged me for the choices I made. Maybe you never truly got to know the person I had become. But none of that changes what is in my heart today.

I miss you every single second.

I always looked up to you. Even though some of your choices hurt me deeply, I never stopped loving you as my brother. That bond can never be broken.

The hardest part is knowing I never got the chance to say goodbye. No final hug. No last conversation. No sharing one more beer together. That pain will stay with me forever.

It hurts even more that I was never told you had passed away. I lost the chance to stand beside you one last time and say the words I should have been able to say.

Wherever you are now, I hope you have found peace. I hope you know that despite everything, you were loved. You will always be a part of me, and I will carry you in my heart for the rest of my life.

I love you, brother.

Rest in peace.

With all my love, Etiënne
