David was a constant in my life for over 54 years, he offered advice when asked for and he was a good listener when others wanted to talk and discuss things in their lives. These things I now do for others. We spent many times together not just in the weekly visits he made for tea with us all (myself, Jack and Lilian), but also Thursday night practice sessions with Jack and Ivor and sometimes myself on the Electronic Organ as well. My father made sure he was okay and never got into any scrapes like an elder Brother should. We Holidayed together, sometimes going abroad on our longer holidays, and always going to Cleethorpes Road to see Bill and Emily and others in the family locally. I was only there just yesterday searching for some peace and remembering us all sat at Ernie Becketts for fish and chips. Alone it seemed very empty. Dave watched me grow up from literally a baby. He wondered over the little fingers and toes I had. He was a good uncle to me and a constant and I give thanks for his life and being there for me. I leave this tribute with the words of a song that he, Jack and Ivor loved very much..
South sea island magic
Is made of a light from the stars
Breezes from the mountains
And music from native guitars
South sea island magic
Has taken possession of me
I'm content forever to
Linger and dream by the sea
Do you recall our meeting?
At a campfire that blazed near the ocean
A single word of greeting
Was the start of an endless devotion
Moonlight, twilight, starlight
And songs that are old but still new
South sea island magic
Has brought me the magic of you
Moonlight, twilight, starlight
And songs that are old but still new
South sea island magic
Has brought me the magic of you
God Bless Dave, you may be gone but love endures and I will always remember the good times we had. Lord place him under your wing and keep him forever with his loved ones till we meet again.
