MichaelMURRAY, MBEMICHAEL Murray MBE, died peacefully at home on January 6, aged 83. Michael was a man of principle and purpose, whose life was devoted to service, fairness and an enduring commitment to the people of Rossendale. He served with distinction as general secretary of the Rossendale Union of Boot, Shoe and Slipper Operatives, becoming a trusted and respected advocate for working people and a powerful voice within the trade union movement. His deep sense of justice and integrity also guided his work as a member of the Manchester Tribunal Service, where he carried out his duties with compassion. For many years, Michael was also chairman of the Grane Residents' Association, a role he fulfilled with tireless dedication and genuine care for those he represented. He was immensely proud to have lived and worked in Rossendale and gave his time freely, believing wholeheartedly that strong communities are built through kindness, responsibility and a shared commitment to one another. His legacy will endure in the lives he touched and in the community he helped to strengthen and shape. Michael will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, working alongside him, or benefiting from his dedication and service. On behalf of his family, Michael would wish to offer his heartfelt thanks and final goodbye to the people of Rossendale. Michael's funeral will take place on Wednesday, January 21, at 10.30am prompt, at St James Parish Church, Haslingden, BB4 5QU.
