LilianMURRAYpassed away peacefully at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, March 11, aged 84, with her cherished children Stephen and Cathy by her side, just five short weeks after the passing of her beloved husband of 63 years, Jimmie. Family was everything to Lilian and she was everything to her family, a much loved wife, mum, grandma, great-grandma, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, and auntie, her door always open, a great listener, giver of sage advice and of unwavering love and support. Lilian, wife of the late, much missed Jimmie Murray, leaves their devoted son and daughter Stephen and Cathy, son-in-law Pete and daughter-in-law Katherine. Lilian was also treasured by her seven grandchildren Donna, Vicky, Daniel, Louise, Katie, Stephen and Danielle, and her 16 great-grandchildren Megan, Millie, Max, Maisie, Amy, Libby, Remy, Lewis, Elijah, Niamh, Erin, Jessica, Josie, Grace, Freddie and Daisy, all of whom remember the happy, fun times they shared with her. Lilian was born and brought up in Bacup. Daughter of proud parents the late Joe and Gladys Darcy, she enjoyed a very happy childhood with her cherished sisters Cathy, Celia, and the late Pat. Besides her sisters Cathy and Celia, she also leaves brother-in-law Jack and many nieces and nephews across the country. Lilian worked as an office manager and as a bookkeeper for the majority of her working life; her sharp intellect and keen aptitude for figures never left her and saw her bookkeeping for her son’s business right up until a few months ago. A keen tennis fan, she loved watching Wimbledon and all the major tournaments. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice herself, Lilian greatly enjoyed listening to music, particularly songs from the shows and musicals. Lilian was also an avid reader and lifelong fan of books. Lilian’s long, well lived and happy life was celebrated at a Requiem Mass at St Peter’s and St Joseph’s RC Church, Newchurch on Tuesday, March 23 and she was later laid to rest in Stacksteads Cemetery, reunited and at peace with her husband Jimmie. Huge thanks go to Mum’s wonderful carers from Homecare who took caring to a whole new level, and to the marvellous staff of the Acute Stroke Ward at Blackburn Royal who looked after Mum, and us, so incredibly well. We’ll never forget your humanity, dedication and compassion. Lilian was much loved and will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her; she will remain forever in our hearts. Once more, the family have been absolutely blown away again by the love, kindness and support we’ve been shown after Mum’s passing so soon after Dad’s. Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and love, we appreciate them all so much and we’re comforted to know that Mum and Dad are back in each other’s arms, together again and at peace.
