ShivkumarOZAWe are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Dr Shivkumar Oza MBBS, FRCS (Lon) from this world on Friday September 22nd, 2023. Shivkumar was born in Kukadeshwar, Madhya Pradesh (M.P.) India on August 11th 1927 in a very modest household to parents Chandrakalalji and Mathurlalji Oza and then completed his schooling at Rampura High school, M.P. His diligence, ambition and incredible fortitude led to him securing a scholarship at Mahatma Gandhi Medical (M.G.M.) College in Indore followed by Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas (GS) Medical School in Bombay, where he achieved a gold medal (1st position) in his final graduation year. His burning motivation and hard work, whilst saving all he could as a medical railway officer on the Western Railway in Bombay, led to his ambition of further studies in England being realised, travelling to England as one of the pioneers in 1956. In 1964, he successfully completed his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (London) specialising in Orthopaedics before returning to India in December the same year. He then returned to England, newly married, with his wife Smt Veena Oza and following a series of positions in Orthopaedics eventually settled in Nottingham in November 1968 devoting himself to his profession and his family throughout his working life as a GP in Kimberley, Nottingham. During his working life, he touched thousands of lives and was highly committed to all his patients over his 38 years of service to the National Health Service. He was general secretary of the Overseas Doctors Association in Nottingham, supporting Asian Doctors qualified overseas, responsible for organizing countless medical meetings, lectures and gatherings of fellow professionals. His professional life lasted till January 1994 when he retired at the age of 67 to return to India to look after his elderly parents back in Indore, India. He devoted his life to his family showering his youngsters with blessings and love and his elders with a huge degree of respect and care. He touched the hearts of everyone he met and his enthusiasm, energy, and love for life was infectious. He transformed the lives of his extended family and helped uplift the lives of all he met, supporting and helping all those around him. Such a rare soul who trailblazed across the world is rare indeed and comes across yet once in a generation. His care, kindness, energy, intelligence and love will be sorely missed by us all.
