In Loving Memory of Tommy Proud
I had the honour of caring for Tommy during my time working in the nursing unit in Cramlington, and I will always be grateful for the time I had with him.
Tommy knew my name was Jessica but he never called me that. To him, I was always “Rosie Posie.” Every single time. He would light up and say, “Oh, Rosie!” with that familiar cheeky tone that was so uniquely him. It became our little thing. No matter how many times I reminded him my name was Jessica, he would smile and carry on calling me Rosie Posie. And somehow, that made it even more special.
He was such a lovely man warm, witty, and wonderfully cheeky. He had a presence about him that made each shift brighter. Caring for him never felt like just work; it felt personal, meaningful.
When I left in January to return to university, I told him I would see him again. I truly believed I would. Hearing of his passing in February was such a shock he seemed so well, so himself. It felt far too soon.
Tommy wasn’t just someone I cared for he was someone who left an imprint on my heart. I will always remember his kindness, his humour, and the gentle spirit he carried.
Rest peacefully, Tommy. You will be deeply missed, and I will always carry the memory of “Rosie Posie” with me 🤍
