Colin JamesRATCLIFFEIt is with great sadness we announce the passing of Colin James Ratcliffe, who passed away peacefully at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on September 23 at the age of 91, and who had been a resident at Hillview Care Home in Rawtenstall for the past four years. Colin is originally from Crawshawbooth, where he lived many years, and worked as a joiner for various companies in the building trade throughout the Rossendale valley. He also taught joinery skills at Burnley College for a period prior to his retirement. He was married for over 60 years to Doreen (nee Philipson) who passed away in 2019, aged 81. They have three sons, Michael, Gary and Ian, and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Colin was an accomplished fell runner and cyclist, having been a member of Rossendale Harriers and the Rossendale Road Club. He was the 46th person to be awarded the 'Bob Graham Club Certificate of Membership', covering 42 Lakeland Peaks in under 24 hours. In his 50's both Colin and Doreen toured extensively by motorcycle, covering Scotland and Europe on their travels. Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life. After the ceremony, friends and those who knew Colin are welcome at the Rossendale Rugby Club, from 3pm - Marl Pits, Rossendale BB4 7SW Family will provide flowers and if desired, donations may be made to Rossendale Hospice in Colin's memory. A special thanks to North West Ambulance Team, Royal Blackburn Hospital A&E Department for their care, the staff at Hillview Care Home in Rawtenstall, and Fred Hamer Funeral Service. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
