FrancisREILLYOn July 10, 2023, aged 89, peacefully at home in Orpington, Kent after a long illness, fortified by the rites of Holy Mother Church. Predeceased in 2022 by his beloved wife, Bridie Reilly (nee Boyle), he is survived by his devoted son, John Reilly. Francie spent the first part of his life in Cambuslang (first in Morriston Street, later in Cairns Road), a place cherished in his memory, with his father John, mother Annie and siblings Eddie, Kathleen, John and Ann. His generosity, kindness and fidelity were exceptional; his loss is mourned by his many family members and friends across the UK and beyond. Requiescat in Pace.

_____________________________________
Donated by Francie Reilly July 2008

Just came across this song in an old paperback I recently bought entitled 'Victoria's Inferno -- SONGS OF THE OLD MILLS, MINES, MANUFACTORIES, CANALS AND RAILWAYS'. I'd guess that many of your site visitors will be familiar with the song and the event, but they might not know all the words. There must have been miners from Cambuslang and surrounding villages also working there at the time. In following decades, I had a grandfather, father, and several uncles working in a Blantyre pit.

I can't imagine there could be any copywright restriction on an old song of that type.

Thanks for all your good work -- I often visit your site, which should be much more patronised.

With thanks

Francie Reilly

(Formerly of Morriston Street and Cairns Road -- now a traitor living in Orpington, Kent!)

Was a great contributer to my 'Old Cambuslang' website with his stories of how things were in his youth. So sorry to see him gone.
