In Loving Memory of My Friend and Co-Researcher, Jürgen Richter
I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and research collaborator, Jürgen Richter. Over the years we not only co-authored several important publications, but also shared unforgettable experiences that shaped both our research and our friendship.
I will always remember August 2003, when Jürgen drove an old Transit van from the former University of Glamorgan all the way from Wales to Leiria for one of our first major measurement campaigns in Portugal. It was one of the hottest summers on record, and he passed through devastating wildfires along the way. His perseverance, calm spirit, and unwavering determination to continue the work captured the essence of who he was: dedicated, courageous, and committed both to science and to those around him.
Together we supervised several PhD students, guiding them through their research journeys and sharing with them the same enthusiasm and curiosity that defined Jürgen’s career. Many of those students now continue their own academic and professional paths, carrying forward the knowledge and inspiration he instilled in them.
Jürgen was more than a brilliant researcher; he was a mentor, a friend, and a true collaborator. His legacy will live on in our joint work, in the students he helped to shape, and in the memories of all who had the privilege to know him.
He will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten.
