BridgetRILEYIt is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bridget (Bridie) Riley, who passed away peacefully at Croft Care Home, Heswall, on July 9, 2025, at the age of 97. Bridget was a beloved wife of the late Joe Riley. She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Ann Marie, Alan, David, Deborah, Loraine, and Derek. Her eldest son, Brian, passed away in 2008.
She was born in Belmullet, Mayo, and left school at 14 and became a house servant and child minder. After the Second World War, she moved to Bedford with her two sisters, Mary and Sally. She settled there and married Joe in 1950. They had six children whilst in Bedford, and moved to Lancashire in 1962, where her youngest child, Derek, was born.
She ran a cafe in Whitewell Bottom, Rossendale, for several years before becoming an Auxiliary Nurse at Rossendale General Hospital, Maternity Ward. She retired in the late 1980s. After her retirement, she moved to Wokingham to be near her sons David and Derek. Several years later, she moved again to the Wirral to be near her daughters, Ann Marie and Deborah. She lived independently in Bebington until she was 92, before moving to the Croft Care Home in Heswall.
A funeral service will be held at on Thursday 14th August 2025 at 10.30 am at Our Lady & St. John's, Heswall, followed by a Cremation (family only) at Landican Cemetery. Lunch and celebration of her life will be held at the Thornton Hall Hotel from 12 noon.

What a wonderful lady Bridie was. Kind, hardworking with a great sense of humour. I have wonderful memories of Bridie after Whitwellbottom Youth Club. We would go round to the house for an entertaining chat with Bridie, she was so relatable and connected with everyone who met her. Goodnight and God bless Bridie, a life well lived.

I had the pleasure of knowing Bridie, firstly when I was a child and used to go in her shop( I was Anne Suttie) and then I was a midwife at Rossendale General when Bridie was an Auxillary nurse . She was a very kind gentle lady and mum to a lovey family. Rest in Peace.
