BrianROBERTSof Charles Street, Oswaldtwistle, sadly passed away on Saturday, August 26, aged 82 years. Brian started his working life at Howard & Bullough’s as an apprentice fitter, soon becoming a skilled fitter, which then meant his work took him all over the world fitting textile machinery in many countries including India, Egypt, Mexico, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and also across Europe. He later became a maintenance engineer on supply boats of North Sea Oil rigs, after working away for many years he then became a maintenance manager of a local bakery before moving to Joseph Arnold’s, where he spent 22 years before taking his well-earned retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed travelling, especially to India, South Asia and across Europe and never lost the bug to travel. He also loved his football and was a season ticket holder at Manchester United, where attending the 1999 Champions League final in Barcelona was the highlight for him. When in his teens Brian was also a gymnast and an amateur footballer representing Howard & Bullough’s as well as several local teams before working abroad that stopped him progressing this further. Brian was one of three children to the late Harry and Eileen Roberts, a dear brother to the late Pat and Derek, a much loved dad of Mark and Philip, a treasured grandad of Matt, Ellie and Mia and also a dear father-in-law of Ann and Keeley. Brian was well known across Oswaldtwistle and will be very sadly missed by all his family and friends. His funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 7, at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please, with donations being gratefully received in memory of Brian for Cancer Research UK.
