The obituary notice of Dr Norman RUSSELL

He was a wonderful teacher and a true gentleman. I was in awe of him when starting my "A" level course but grew very quickly to love his enthusiasm and great humour. His ability to immediately engage people through his great knowledge, humour and enthusiasm was an invaluable lesson to me and helped shape me as a teacher. A great teacher and lovely person.

So sad to hear this news. Norman Russell inspired me to study English Literature at Sheffield University and his love of language was simply awesome. A great teacher and academic

He was a wonderful teacher and taught me to engage with literature. Best teacher I ever had and a lovely outlook. Will never forget him, thank you Sir. RIP

Dr Russell gave me my love of literature. He was such a gentle and kind man and imbued his students with a love of books and plays. I loved his lessons, particularly as he always told us tales about his childhood and his life. I went on to do a degree in english with teaching thanks to him and always remember the gift he gave me, to love literature in all of its forms. Rip Dr Russell and thank you ❤️

Dr Russell (no relation) was my favourite teacher, he was kind, enthusiastic and just knew how to help kids learn. I hope he had a very happy life and painless death.

Such an excellent teacher who in his years will have inspired so many young lives. Rest in peace Sir.

An inspirational Teacher and a kind Gentleman. Imbued me with a love of literature 50+ Years ago.

Probably the kindest most professional teacher I ever met . Got me through my O level English and I even began to enjoy it . His enthusiasm shone through and he was an inspiration to everyone .

Truly lovely man, who inspired generations of kids to explore both literature & language. He did it all with an air of mischievousness & wonder...
