BessieSALMONpassed away unexpectedly at her home on Blackburn Road, Accrington, aged 102 years, on April 24. Bessie was born and grew up in Accrington and worked in the family bakers and confectioners, also Howard & Bullough’s, then at Calderstones Hospital, Whalley. She was the middle child of three and grew up with her two brothers Stephen and Joseph. Bessie was a master baker, an avid bingo player in the early days and enjoyed completing crosswords and sudoku right up until last month. She loved writing and reading poetry and keeping in touch with family and friends around the world. Bessie will be missed by so very many, especially her two children Jean and David, her daughter-in-law Patricia and son-in-law, Malcolm, in addition to her beloved grandchildren and the late Mark, her great grandchildren and great, great, grandchildren and of course her many friends all who loved her dearly. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held on Thursday, May 11, at St James Church, Accrington, 1pm Service and 2pm Burial at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road, Accrington. The funeral reception will be held at the Accrington Stanley 1968 Lounge, Accrington Stanley FC. Flowers are welcome, as are charitable donations to supportourparas.org and enquires are via Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.
