In Loving Memory of Eva Sawtell (née Mchenga)
09 September 1972 – 5th August 2025

Our beloved mum and Gogo, Eva Sawtell passed away peacefully on 5th August 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, determination, and inspiration. She will be laid to rest on 12th September 2025.

Eva is dearly missed by her devoted husband, her two daughters and their husbands, and her three treasured grandchildren. She was also a cherished sister, aunt, and friend whose presence could light up any room.

A woman of remarkable drive, Eva believed deeply in the power of education and was always encouraging others to work hard, pass their grades, and build a good life. She proved that determination has no age limit when she achieved what once seemed impossible — graduating with her nursing degree in her 50s. Even in the face of ill health, she remained ambitious, hardworking, and devoted to her patients and community.

Eva also had a flair for style. Whether in her work uniform or dressed for a special occasion, her hair was always perfectly in place, her lipstick immaculate, and her outfits chosen with care. Her many “Evaisms” — the unique phrases and quirks only she could pull off — will live on in the hearts and smiles of those who knew her.

To know our mum Eva was to be inspired. Her kindness, humour, elegance, and courage will be forever remembered and celebrated by all whose lives she touched.

May you rest in eternal peace mum.
