Richard MatthewSCOTTIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard, a much-loved son of Keith, beloved brother of Catherine, and heroic uncle to Jem and Harry.

Richard touched the lives of many with his unique soul - kind, gentle, intelligent and funny. He will be remembered as a true friend and a great adventurer.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on Monday 14th July at 3:30pm at Trent Valley Crematorium. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

Farewell Scotty, rest peacefully my friend. I will miss your council, your humour, the long chats setting the world to rights, our time in the mountains making sense of it all. You had remarkable sense of purpose that stood you well in everything that you set out to achieve and always with that characteristic charm and humility. There was always a plan, a scheme, a project, a new skill to master which you seemed to do with complete ease. Your boundless enthusiasm for adventure were so infectious and shone like a light to me. And always at the heart of it, a deeply thoughtful, considerate human being.

You've lived a wonderfully rich and fruitful life Scotty, never a moment wasted. But most of all, you were generous with the time and the friendship that you gave to those around you and I will always be grateful for the time you gave me.
John

Thanks again Richard for your friendship, the adventures, the mischief and sometimes just having a good muck around! Our fantastic trip to America in 1990 is never far from my mind. Also April 1993, the day after my Gran died you came round and suggested we drive to Paris for a break to take my mind off things. We went the next day, another very memorable event that sparked my love of Paris. Have visited Paris many times since, but might never have visited the city without your suggestion. Thanks again Richard, and hope to see you sometime in the skies above. Paul

I had the pleasure of meeting Richard along with Kim on a sailing trip in 2021 and spent two wonderful weeks on the boat with them. I only knew Richard for a couple of weeks but it was an honor to hang out with him and he shard some of his life experiences with sleeping on top of aviation fuel in the back of a air to air tanker, his trip to the North Pole, and some of the pictures of life in Scotland. You will be missed and it’s an honor to have known you even if for a very short time.
