Phil was a special friend. We met at 16 years old at the beginning of our Merchant Navy adventure, became close friends through our 4 years traing and Phil was Best Man at my wedding to Ann in 1973. We stayed close through the for the following 10 years, Phil was introduced to our first two children, but careers and distance prevented further close contact. We did, however, always stay in touch. His loss hit us very hard. He had known me since I was 16, and my wife since she was just 17, and our mutual friend Sue who was 17 when she met Phil, I know feels his loss. Our hearts go out to his beautiful family, but we have happy memories of our times together.
