SIMON TUCKERFlags tribute to Councillor Simon TuckerFlags at Newham's town halls in East Ham and Stratford were at half-mast on Friday (February 6) to mark the funeral of Councillor Simon Tucker.Councillor Tucker, a Labour member for Royal Docks Ward, died at his home in Plaistow on Tuesday 27 January aged 48.His funeral service took place at St John the Baptist Church, 823 High Road, Leytonstone conducted by the Reverend Raymond Draper.Councillor Tucker, a solicitor, was elected to Royal Docks Ward in 2006. Following his election he was appointed as the community forum lead member for Royal Docks working on local priorities and encouraging community participation.In 2007 he became deputy executive member with the influential councillor and community forums (legal) portfolio. He held this position until his death.He served on the Night Time Economy, Health, Adult Social Care and Shaping Newham scrutiny commissions as well as the Newham Community Police Forum.Councillor Tucker was a member of the Law Society, Amnesty International and Shelter. He was previously a councillor in Waltham Forest from 1998 to 2002 and vice-chair of housing.A minute's silence will be held before the next full council meeting as a mark of respect.Mayor Sir Robin Wales said: "Simon was a dedicated councillor who cared tremendously and worked hard for the community he represented. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time."
