Today, we wish more than anything that we could sit with you, look into your eyes and say “Buon compleanno, Nonna” and “Happy 92nd Birthday” to you face to face. Sadly, we lost you in March this year, and having to celebrate your birthday without you here is something that still doesn’t feel real.
We miss you more than words could ever explain. Ci manchi tanto. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful memories of you, but somehow, since you left us, those memories feel even more precious. We find ourselves visiting the places where we shared so many moments together, and sometimes we can’t help but shed a little tear, knowing that although those moments will always live in our hearts, we can never recreate them in quite the same way again.
You have left such a huge space in all of our lives, a space that can never be filled. We talk about you almost every day. We remember the funny things you used to say, the little things you did, and all the moments that perhaps seemed ordinary at the time but now mean everything to us. Looking back, those memories shine even brighter because we realise just how special they truly were.
We wish more than anything that you were still here to celebrate this birthday with us. It hurts knowing that we have to write these words instead of being able to tell you them ourselves. But we find comfort in believing that you are somewhere peaceful, watching over us, and that one day, somehow, we will all be together again.
Until that day comes, keep shining brightly for us, Nonna. Celebrate your first birthday in Heaven knowing just how deeply you are loved, how greatly you are missed, and how much of you will always live on in each of us.
