Derek AllanSLAVINOur fabulous, weird and wonderful dad died on May 25th 2019 after a brief and shocking illness. To his daughters and his grandchildren he was the Champion of the World. His funeral will be held on June 11th at 2.20pm at Rochdale Crematorium. Flowers welcome. All enquiries to Rochdale Funeralcare, Co-op. Tel 01706 653622

Belatedly gutted to hear the very sad news.. wish I’d got down to see you over the last couple of year. thought you would be around forever.. Your were not just a fantastic unique man, tutor but also a great friend and friend in need. Thanks for everything Derek I will no doubt pass your amazing knowledge and wisdom down to my young kids..

Very sad to see this news, belatedly. He taught me in the mid 60s and was a true enthusiast for the language and was able to build a real rapport with the pupils. Spent considerable time chatting with him at the 'Class of 62' reunion at the Rugby Club, a couple of years back.

I, too, was inspired by Mr. Slavin during my time in Balderstone 6th form (1973-1975) and went on to get a degree in English Language and Literature at a red brick university. During all my undergraduate studies, I never came across a professor who could hold a candle to him. My sympathies to his family.

Mr Slavin was my teacher from 1982-1985. He was inspirational and I will never forget his classes.
My deepest sympathy to his family who must be devastated by the loss.
