Nanny Speak,
I have so many lovely memories of you, from our early years where we bottle-fed lambs with you by the AGA, played with your many litters of kittens and enjoyed stays at Fernhill when Mum and Dad went away. You and Grandad would dress up and we’d have scampi and chips at the Railway for tea. A treat! Or you’d be introducing Emily and I to cockles or lychees or taking us to Sainsbury’s in your big red Peugeot estate car without seatbelts! (In the 80s) where we’d share a prawn sandwich for lunch.

In my teenage years I remember mostly sitting and catching up with you at your kitchen table whilst we read your favourite Take a break magazines and drank cups of tea. You always had time to listen and never judged. You loved a wedding and we have wonderful photos of you looking glam and having fun at ours that I will treasure. In fact you loved most get togethers-a family BBQ, roast dinner or christening! I can’t recall you ever declining an invite! I remember you chatted to my close friends who met you at Freya’s christening and thought you were fabulous. We already knew that but it made me proud that you were so well liked and that you got on well with our other Nanny, June and also my in laws, everybody thought so highly of you.
More recently you enjoyed visits at home from your Great grandchildren and you would treat them with a biscuit from ‘the cupboard’ and keep us up to date with the latest family news, let them pick daffodils or tell us a story from your childhood.

You loved taking a photo- this is clear from the many lovely ones we have seen recently across the years. This trait I have inherited from you and I am thankful for this as I have several of me and you and the family that we will treasure for a lifetime. I will also continue to treasure mine and Holly’s middle names ‘Mair’ and continue to tell people about you- our wonderful Welsh Nan/ Great Nan and continue making Welsh cakes and Bara brith, as taught by Mum. We will love you always, Lucy x

Aunty Mair....when we were kids holidays in devon were always the best mind you this was the sixties where everything was so different.Days spent opposite “fern hill”in the woodlands with kay, william and peter from down the road, and all those crows singing in the branches. the evening then down to the wailway as william would say.Uncle bill would be at market either Hatherleigh or exeter ,carmarthen selling or buying cattle.Mair cooking on auger for our meals what a feast we used to have.hope I’ve written this as correctly as my memory remembers. you will be sadly missed but you will always be in my thoughts.Eirian

Lovely Lady. I remember meeting her in Trago buying carpets and had a right laugh. I'm away in Scotland on the 30th so will be raising a wee dram to you all. Best wishes John Lawton
