Six degrees of separation and all that.

Many years ago I worked in Rhyl. In 89 (?) I was persuaded to a Friday night at Rhyl Folk Club by a friend/work colleague instead of our usual night out around the High St/sea front. Bloke on stage with a lovely voice singing a bunch of songs we didn’t know, which turned out to be by Ralph McTell. We sat rapt and, post a short set, were accosted as potential new blood and given more than an hour on Ralph, Fairport, Cropredy, Richard Thompson, Clive Gregson, Woody Guthrie and more. You can guess who. For me it opened some musical doors which remain open to this day. Tried to persuade us to hill-walking too. Failed :)

A few years later I realised my cousin was working outdoors with the same bloke. She confirmed he still sang and played occasionally.

Friend and I stayed in touch but bar Christmas cards we drifted. At the end of last year we reconnected properly after 28 years. Amongst many other weird connections we refound they texted me this page and details of the remembrance, sadly long after the fact. I only had to click through to the Facebook tributes to see who it was.

RIP Mr. Taylor.
