JohnTHOMPSONMr John James Thompson, known as Jimmy or Jim to friends and family, passed away peacefully at Highfield Hall, Haslingden, on Friday, December 10, aged 85. Born in Maryport, Cumbria, Jimmy moved to Haslingden as a boy and remained in the valley for much of his life. He served in both the Suffolk and Parachute Regiments of the British Army where his active service in Cyprus during the late 1950s left him with a great love for the island and its people. Jim was an active man until earlier this year and enjoyed dog walking ‘his boys’ Finn and Spike, listening to opera music, crosswords, dominoes and TV box-sets. He leaves children Kathy, David and Fiona, daughter-in-law Bernadette, sons-in-law George and Alex, and grandchildren Anthony, Chris, Joe, Lauren, George, Junior and James. The funeral will be held at 12.20pm on Tuesday, January 4, at Accrington Crematorium and led by Minister David Burrow. Family flowers only please, with any desired donations to Rossendale Hospice. Donations can be made online at www. fredhamer.co.uk (tributes and donations). Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Service, Rawtenstall.
