Julianna (Sheila)TIERNEYJulianna M.T. Tierney died peacefully on 18th July 2022 at the age of 91 years at her home in Cheltenham. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick and her brothers, John, Patrick, Donal and Colum. She will be sadly missed by her sister Margaret, brothers Brendan and Michael and her many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was born in Denny on 25th August 1930. In 1933 the family moved to Stirling when her father, Daniel Foley, was appointed headteacher at St. Mary's Primary School. In 1949, following her secondary education, she chose to become a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame in Scotland (Sister Damien Marie) gaining a degree in History and Modern Languages at the University of Glasgow. As a qualified teacher, she taught History at Notre Dame High School, Glasgow. After a diploma course in London, she became religious adviser to secondary schools in the Diocese of Motherwell. In 1968 she left the Sisters to continue her teaching career in London and Essex. Later, as Mrs. Julianna Tierney, she was deputy head in a large comprehensive school in Essex. On retirement, she and her husband, Patrick, moved to Cheltenham where they made many friends. A requiem mass will take place on Friday 5th August at St. Gregory The Great R.C. Church, Cheltenham, followed by cremation at Cheltenham Crematorium. Please make any donations to charities which help to alleviate poverty rather than send flowers. Thank you.
