Dr Edward Tierney dedicated his life to caring for others. He joined the family practice in Whitworth on the 1st October 1964 and went on to specialise in anaesthetics. We have known Edward as a friend and colleague for 40 years. He was an active member of the BMA and a very well loved and respected GP.He was a kind, compassionate and caring doctor who always put his patient’s needs first and was willing to attend them in their hour of need at any time of the day or night.
As a friend he was generous, excellent company and always behaved like a true gentleman.
We worked with him at Buckley Hall Prison , Springhill Hospice and at The Dawes Family Practice. He was hard-working, loyal and reliable and was liked, valued and respected by all the teams he worked with.
We will miss his kindness, support and friendship greatly.
We would like to send our sincere condolences to his widow Margaret and all the family.

I worked alongside Edward for many years at HMP Buckley Hall. He was an excellent colleague. He was dedicated, professional, kind and caring. He could, at times, be wonderfully eccentric. Occasionally arriving to carry out his evening consultations with the prisoners in full evening dress (if he was attending an event afterwards).
He was an absolute gentleman for whom I had the upmost respect.
I greatly mourn his passing.
