BettyTOWNINGBetty passed peacefully away at East Surrey Hospital on Thursday 2 July 2026 aged 95. Betty grew up on Trafalgar Street in Radford with her mother, father and three sisters, Dorothy, Mavis and Kathleen, who all pre-deceased her. Mother to William, Paul (dec'd), and Bernadette, she will be deeply missed by her family including her grandchildren, Matthew, Lindsay, Sabina, Johnny, Andrew and Poppy.
Latterly employed in the Civil Service, she enjoyed a long and happy retirement. For much of her adult life she lived at Ruddington; before then she had lived at Rempstone, but spent over 20 years at Cromford.
Betty was a talented pianist, and enjoyed reading, poetry and music and the garden. She loved the seaside and weekend outings with Bernadette in her later years, and lived with her in Sussex following the death of her husband John, to whom she had been married for 65 years.
