PamTOWNSENDPamela Mary Townsend died peacefully surrounded by her family on February 6 2026, in Bristol where she has lived for decades. Pam will be greatly missed by her companion Geoff Alun-Jones, and her two children, Ashley Uttley (James) and David (Lizzie Bush), her grandchildren Alice and Lucy Uttley, and Charles and Thomas Townsend. She is survived by her sisters Julia (Steven) and Sara (Kenneth) and brother Robert (Stephanie). She was preceded in death by her parents. Pam was born to Diana Mary Tonks (nee Cownie) and Robert Stanley Tonks in Cardiff, Wales, where she grew up.
Pam was a graduate of Howell's School in Llandaff, Wales, where she represented the school on the field hockey, netball and swimming teams. She was an accomplished violinist, and was the leader of the city student orchestra.
Pam received a B.Sc. from Imperial College London, an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan, and earned her P.Eng certification in Ontario, Canada.
Pam was a civil engineer and worked for a number of UK based international engineering consultancies on assignments in the UK, Iraq, and Canada, building bridges, docks, industrial infrastructure, office towers, and other complex projects. She was the principal engineer at her firm Pam Townsend Associates, Elliott Lake, Ontario, where she built roads, a remote hydro electric facility, schools, public buildings, parks, and much more.
Moving to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Pam earned her MBA and worked with an international business consultancy advising small businesses. She continued this work in Bristol, UK, and later applied her expertise to a nursing home business, Stanton Court, which she owned and managed until her retirement.
She was an active board member of many public institutions, including the school board, the hospital board and the library board in Elliott Lake, and an ambulance services board in Avon. She also did volunteer work for many charitable causes in Elliott Lake, Saskatoon, and Bristol.
Pam had a wide range of interests including music, art, photography and literature. She loved to sail, ski, swim, drive sportscars, travel, visit museums, art galleries, attend concerts, plays, opera, ballet, and spending time at The Clifton Club. At the club, Pam was involved with classic car motoring, viniculture, and snooker. She was a gourmand, a wine connoisseur, a passionate chef, and an ambitious gardener.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday 17th March, 2pm at The Clifton Club, 22 The Mall, Clifton, Bristol with Sam White officiating.
