IanVINTERObituary - Ian Robert Vinter Ian Robert Vinter, 78, of Torquay, passed away peacefully on 7th August, 2025. Ian was born on 9th October, 1946. He was a devoted grandad, dad and husband and a well-loved member of the community.

Ian was a talented all-round sportsman who played cricket for Somerset Second XI and was selected for England Schoolboys. In the twilight of his career he was a prolific batsman and bowler at Paignton Cricket Club. He was equally talented on the rugby field, playing for Bath, Saracens, Bedford and Eastern Counties before finishing his career captaining Torquay Rugby Club, where he ran out more than 100 times for the first team. He worked as a History and PE teacher at Paignton Community College. Ian is survived by his wife Lesley and his sons Phil and Steve, and was predeceased by his father Bert, mother Pam and brother Tony. A Service will be held at Torquay Crematorium at 2.30pm on 28th August, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or Rowcroft Hospice. We would be grateful if you could let us know if you plan to attend the wake, so we can cater for everyone. Dress code smart casual and if anyone would like to wear a rugby shirt, they would be welcome.
