MaryWARDMary Ward, nee Birtwistle, of Woodlands Care Home, was born in Oswaldtwistle to Ivy and Arthur Birtwistle, and was the dear sister of the late Eunice. She was the dear wife of the late Jack, and aunty to Geoffrey, Jacqueline, Kathleen, Judith and Barbara (deceased). She began her working life in a local mill before opening a haberdashery shop on Union Road, Oswaldtwistle. In 1964 she trained as a craft instructor and took up employment at Enfield Adult Training Centre. She became Deputy Manager and remained there up until her retirement some 22 years later. Mary was a talented needle worker and painter of pottery, and family and friends often received gifts of her handiwork. Following her retirement, together with her husband Jack, they met up for monthly luncheons with retired members of Unison. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 14, at 1.40pm at Accrington Crematorium Chapel, led by Rev Steven Crook. Family flowers only please; donations if desired to the British Heart Foundation c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
