Alison JoyceWAREINGIn Loving Memory

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alison Joyce Wareing (nee Smith, previously McConnell) on 24 October 2025, just three days before her 85th birthday.

Born in Manchester, the eldest of three sisters, she devoted her early working life to nurturing young minds as a primary school teacher. She lived for many years in Hazel Grove, Stockport, before retiring to North Wales, where she found joy and community in Anglesey and later Ruthin.

Her heart, however, always remained in Anglesey- a place she loved deeply and to which she returned shortly before she passed away.

She was a familiar and much-loved presence at Bingo nights in Aberffraw during the late 1990s and early 2000s, where she lived with her first husband, Ian (McConnell). After his passing, she embraced life anew, finding love again at the age of 70 through online dating - proving that happiness has no age limit. She spent the last 15 years sharing adventures with her second husband, David, who sadly predeceased her in July this year.

A lifelong passionate collector of antiques with a keen eye for a bargain, she also loved gardening, quizzing, and learning languages. Her curiosity, creativity, and ability to find joy in life's simplest moments were infectious.

She leaves behind a devoted sister, a loving daughter and son-in-law, cherished nieces and nephews, and beloved stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, kindness, humour, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends take comfort in knowing she bore her final illness with quiet bravery, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by love.

There will be no funeral, in accordance with her wishes, but all who knew her are invited to remember her in their own way.

To my dear Auntie Ali. I have such fond memories as a child of being around you and uncle Ian, whether that was special occasions at your house in Hazel Grove or later in life inBbodorgan. I always saw you, along with uncle Ian, as eccentric in your own way but also solid as a rock, which I thought to be a truly admirable combination to have in life. As a couple I looked up to you both as an example of what a relationship can be, caring whilst working in tandem between each others strengths and weaknesses in life whilst never seeming to me to be too serious about things. I maintain to carry these insights forwards in my own life and pass them on to Willow and beyond. I know that in this way a piece of your legacy lives on through our family.
Your nephew, Jonathan x

Our lovely Auntie Ali.
I know we all have such fond memories, which we will cherish forever and hold her firmly in our hearts.
As a child I would spend my summers with Auntie Ali and Uncle Ian; days filled with gardening, painting, puzzles, charity shops and lots of eating! Our favourite thing was sitting with pen and paper at the ready, waiting for Countdown to start. Where we’d compete against each other to see who could get the most words (of course Auntie Ali always won- to which she’d reply with a wry smile “is that all you have?”).
My mum, Auntie Ali and I had a few holidays in Wales together in later years, filled with chips on the sea front and lots of giggles.
I’m sure she is up in heaven with her life-long loves, being waited on hand and foot! Auntie Ali was truly a woman after my own heart and will be sorely missed by us all

Remembering my Wonderful Auntie Ali. I have
lots of Happy childhood memories and I will share a few. Memories of helping out at the local Scope charity shop where she were manageress and shouting out the secret code word "spot" when there was £100 in the till that needed removing. I'm sure this is where her love and now ours of charity shops and finding a bargain started. So so many happy memories at Llwnysgaw with her and Uncle Ian ❤️.I remember how Uncle Ian did everything and the only "cooking" auntie Ali did was making yogurt and that was her speciality. You kept such a beautiful garden and you had a love of strimming!
The cartoons you used to draw of uncle Ian in his deerstalker and the moles, you were very funny. We spent hours watching deal or no deal and countdown..... I'm sure Richard Whitley was your not too secret crush .
You always rememberd the girls birthdays and I promise to keep your memories alive with them and play sodoku and word puzzles which you loved.

I was born the day before Alison's 6th birthday, I was her special birthday present! Well , that didn't go down well with six-year-old Alison, she already had a sister, Jennifer! and she wanted a bike. Alison humorously repeated this tale to her nieces and nephews and great nieces over the years. But we never forgot our birthdays and often celebrated together, which was special. Alison, my lovely big sister (along with brother-in-law Ian), always a major influence and presence in my life. Ali was a loving Auntie and great aunt to my children and grandchildren. I treasured the time when we lived close by to one another on Bodorgan Estate "home beat' on Anglesey. Family were so happy for Alison, after Ian passed, when she eventually met and married David, who wonderfully completed their later years together. So many precious memories and shared life experiences with my big sister over seven decades. Love you so much Ali. Sisters forever xx 💕

For 59 yrs I knew Auntie Ali and my first memories are of her tickling me a little toddler on the sofa her family home with Uncle Ian & cuz Fiona. As a boy Auntie Ali gave me elecution lessons at her Mum & Dad's house, Margaret & John on Sunday's but just exactly the same time Match of the Day started (my fav programne!), apparently I had too broad a Gorton accent and the family thought it needed correcting, so I got to spend time with my Auntie, I loved that, indeed she was the most clever person in our family, a teacher! Auntie Ali also knitted the legendary 'Rabbit', a 3 foot tall floppy cuddly toy & made a chocolate coloured one for daughter Fiona too. I loved Rabbit & into adulthood when sadly one day it fell apart in a washing machine. In my 40's Auntie made a fab present, Rabbit the 2nd, made from her original pattern, what a sweet thing to do & with so many hours of knitting. Auntie Ali and Uncle Ian lived next door to me in Bodorgan for several years so I was privileged to see them plenty and do remember Auntie going to her bingo in Aberffraw and also cycling to & fro the village up the steep country lane to Llwynysgaw on a shopper bike with an electric motor (!) that helped her up that hill in summer sunshine! A few years after Uncle Ian passed, at Auntie Ali's request I helped make a profile for a seniors friendship site, occassional tech back up & even help replying! It was there she first conversed with, then subsequently started courting and eventually marrying David, I was so happy for her! They enjoyed their final years always being together, which is lovely. Auntie Ali and David came to our house in Abergele over the years since for lunch (they loved Alona's cooking & noodles!); even taking part in karaoke sessions, where I treasured duetting with Auntie Ali singing Bridge Over Troubled Water last Autumn. I loved Auntie Ali & cherish every single memory of her, she is dearly missed & by us all in our own ways. Much love to you Auntie Ali xxx
