I was at Wallbrook Junior School with Richard and lived just down the road from him in Dimmocks Avenue.

He contacted me a few years ago and now I regret not having taken up his offer to meet. I remember him fondly and I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

Having just heard of Richard's passing, I would like to record my good memories of him: Interesting and enjoyable meetings with him at the Royal Over-Seas League in London, where we were both members. Also working with him when he was Treasurer and I was Secretary of the Central London Europe Group, the central London Branch of the European Movement UK. We shared a dedication to the European ideal and European culture and I think Richard would be pleased that I continue to be an active member of the European Movement.

Richard was our mum’s cousin and, although we didn’t see him often over the years, he always kept in touch. His family was very important to him, and he was very knowledgable about his family history. He enjoyed Wassell get-togethers. He was an intelligent and kind man who will be missed.

The Monte Cassino Foundation for Remembrance and Reconciliation owes a great debt to Richard for his energy and vision, his work at maintaining contacts, establishing the Facebook page - which he managed for several years - and working towards establishing a solid base for the foundation. We met through this work, but I will always think of him first and foremost as a friend. Delightfully old-fashioned, always the perfect gentleman, zealous in all that he sought to achieve.
Rest in Peace, Richard, you left us too soon but you will be remembered always.

Our cousin Richard will be greatly missed. He was such an interesting character with a fascinating life story.
Richard was always keen to organise family reunions and get togethers. It was important to him to keep us all in touch and he took a great interest in the family tree and keeping people connected.
Rest in peace cousin Richard.

Richard and I met in our first year studying French at King's College London. We started debating and arguing then, and the debate lasted for decades. One thing we agreed on, though, was being pro-EU. There were holidays, meals out, parties and barbecues. Richard was there at our wedding, our Silver wedding, and at my ordination. No more arguing now!
