My name is Alan – I am the youngest of the family of Norman, Leonard, Maurice, Betty, John, and me. By the time I arrived in 1943 - Norman the eldest sibling - was already more than 10 years older than me.
From my very earliest years, the age gaps between us became significant as we made our independent ways in the World.
Norman made a very successful early career in the Royal Navy, and especially at this time of Year his family must be especially proud of his Service career.
In his numerous subsequent career roles he certainly achieved a tremendous amount.
It was probably from these experiences that he developed his pragmatic, forthright and no-nonsense approach to life – not forgetting – as others may have noticed - his sometimes scathing sense of humour
My memories of Norman and Sheila and Glanton are spread over a long period of time. One of my earliest memories of Norman being his impact on the household during his periods of leave from the Navy – and of Sheila - that she used to bake wonderful cheese scones …
I hope to attend Norman’s funeral as it will become another of those significant memories which I can and will recall at any time and anywhere – as will Norman and Sheila’s close family and many friends.
Norman brings to a conclusion a chapter in the Watson story. He leaves a rich legacy for the undoubted success of future generations of his family.
