Albert was our much loved neighbour for seventeen years. My son was very close to him, often spending hours talking about life, school and ambitions for the future. They were such good pals in a friendship that proved to span the generations.
Albert was an expert gardener who took a great deal of pride in his lawn. When I say there wasn't a blade of grass out of place, I am not exaggerating. Once I came home from work and discovered him trimming the edges with a pair of scissors. At that point, I decided to not even try to keep up but just admire his pristine garden over the fence. Monty Don, eat your heart out!
We would often chat over the said fence about football, family, work and his life back in the midlands as a mechanic. He was my go to man for tool hire, he seemed to have an implement for any job.
Today, I was expecting to hear his unmistakable accent over the fence asking me how everybody in our family is getting on. I will really miss that! He was always there with a smile and time for me. He was such a good friend.
Albert was a bit of a dare devil on the quiet. He would often climb on his roof to fix any problems and once even fell off it. I was so concerned about him as he was well into his eighties at this stage. However, I needn't have been. He simply brushed himself down and cracked on with the next task in front of him.
I will really miss his friendship, and the care and compassion that he showed towards us as a family. He truly was one in a million. We will all miss you terribly Albert but are comforted by the fact that you are back with your beloved wife Joyce.
Lawson says he will miss your motor magazines every month and will treasure the ones you so diligently delivered to him every month without fail.
Until we meet again old friend, I will always cherish the times we spent together.
Love and best wishes to Martin and Elaine and to all of Albert's family. We sincerely offer our deepest condolences to you.
