Dad, father in law and grandfather; sweet, kind, generous and also just a little bit eccentric! Which, of course, his grandchildren found endlessly amusing, enjoying his easy going, sometimes silly company. Being with Tom was certainly never dull (unless, of course, he fell asleep, which he could do any time, any place!), whether it was silly jokes, trying to wind me up over politics or discussing matters as wide ranging as world affairs, bollards or local history. In recent years, his granddaughter, Eleanor, tried to introduce him to the concepts of feminism! I'm not too sure how much of that stuck, though! He was curious and inquisitive about the world, single minded about the topics that caught his interest and possessed a genuine artistic talent. He was one of the few people in the world willing to sit through my dozens and dozens of holiday photos and seemed genuinely interested in the running commentary provided. He was, as they say, good craic, engaging company. We will miss him.
