I first met Steve at ICI Huddersfield in 1990, when we were both chemists on a multi-disciplinary agrochemicals team. He was the senior chemist and it was my first job after university. As well as being a talented scientist, he was a big character — always laughing, always making the work fun.

We remained friends for the next 35 years, meeting up to catch up on our families, share a laugh, and reminisce about the old ICI days.

Gone too soon. You will be sorely missed, Steve. Rest in peace.

I'm very sorry to hear about Steve's passing. We first met as new starters at ICI on the 1/1/90, ready for our first day on the 2nd. We were staying at a dinner, bed and breakfast house on New Hey Road. Amongst many fond memories, my most enduring one is the phrase he used ingratiate himself with the Landlady by saying 'Thank you, very pleasant' for whatever we had, as she collected the plates. Steve was a lovely man.

I first met Steve at ICI Huddersfield, then latterly I worked for him sporadically at EMS.
He was a great character, a true friend and mentor to me. We shared some memorable times together at work and play (football and beer were never far from our thoughts!)
He has always kept in touch since I emigrated to NZ 21 years ago, he even attended my father's funeral when I was unable to.
I know that family was very important to him and my thoughts are with them.
You will be sorely missed Steve, Rest in Peace

I first met Steve, in the late 1980's when we were both working for ICI in Huddersfield. later Steve and I became business partners at EMS in 1994. We both had such great expectations for the fledgling company and looking back, working with Steve was such a pleasure. We worked hard and played hard too! Although I left EMS in the late 90's Steve and I kept in touch and had the odd pint or two over the years. He was always happy to meet up. Sadly didn't get to meet of late! Rest in Peace Steve....

I met Dr Steve over 15 years ago through work. We remained friends since then and enjoyed an annual catch up at Xmas when we would sink a few pints discussing our beloved Villa. He will be greatly missed. RIP Steve UTV

I knew Steve for 47 years. He was always ready for a chat, for a road trip, or for a pint. For the last 29 years, even though we lived on separate continents, he always kept in touch. I will miss our monthly Zoom calls. He was the best mate a bloke could have.

Steve was a kind and generous colleague, a unique character and most of all, a good friend. Taken way too soon.

My thoughts are with Janet, Jennifer and Stephen.

Rest in peace Steve.

Andy.
